The Impact
Using “Indian gaming proceeds” to build foundational programs.
This isn’t just a list of jobs; it’s a record of community building. I am a Hannahville Potawatomi, tribal member #278. As a full-time tribal government executive director, community board and tribal council member, I was able to establish several foundational programs, policies, and procedures that promoted tribal government growth.
Rebuilding tribal government operations involved major compliance issues with Federal programming for the tribal community. Utilizing the gaming operations revenue remedied this problem by 1993. A congratulatory award letter was sent to begin construction of the Michigan Potawatomi Housing Authority (tribal corporation), Mutual Help and HomeOwnership Opportunity Program, the first home ownership program.
